What happens in a Telehealth appointment?
Who Do Telehealth Appointments Suit?
As a general rule, dietetic appointments are well suited to Telehealth. For many people though, it used to feel strange to consider attending a medical appointment while sitting in your living room, and then COVID happened!
But not all Telehealth is the same and COVID showed us that different practitioners did Telehealth differently to each other.
How do we do Telehealth?
We feel that it is important for us to see you during our Telehealth appointment as you/your child’s body language and facial expressions actually tell us a lot. It is also nice to see who we are talking to (and we’re sure you feel the same way!). Because of this, our Telehealth appointments are always done via video.
At the time of booking you will be sent an email confirmation which includes a link to your appointment (to use at the time of your appointment). We will also send you a reminder email and SMS closer to the date of the appointment with this link again. You do not need any special program to chat with us via this link.
If the technology fails us on this platform, we will try zoom and worst case, we will have a phone consultation.
Please make sure that your device has plenty of power and that you have a quiet place to chat with good wifi/phone signal.
What Are The Advantages Of Telehealth Appointments?
You can wait for the appointment while attending to other tasks at home (although we still do our best to run on time so you shouldn’t have to wait very often)
You do not have to take the time to travel to the clinic for the appointment
There are no travel/parking costs involved
Your child does not have to miss as much school as we often see many children sitting in the car outside the school gates
You can check your cupboards and fridge during the appointment to ask specific questions about products you have at home (where relevant)
You can attend even if you or your child are sick as you do not have to leave your home or risk infecting others
What Are The Disadvantages of Telehealth Appointments?
The dietitian is unable to weigh and measure your child. This may not matter if you are able to have these measurements taken by your local doctor or maternal child health nurse, or in some cases, you may even be able to do these at home.
